The 9th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards Announced

The 9th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards were announced this evening at the New York Times Company Headquarters. It was "Zama" (directed by Lucrecia Martel), that won for Best Film.

According to the Cinema Tropical Press Release, the winners this year were selected by a jury panel composed of Molly O'Keefe (film professional/producer), Richard Pena (film scholar/programmer), Juana Suarez (scholar and media archivist/preservation activist), Dan Sullivan (programmer for the Film Society of Lincoln Center), and Jesse Trussell (programmer at BAMcinematek). 

The U.S. Latino cinema jury included Manuel Betancourt (film journalist/critic), Christine Davilla (Creative Executive at Stage 13), and Monika Navarro (Senior Director of Programs at the Tribeca Film Institute).

So who else won at the 9th Annual Cinema Tropical Awards? The other winners along with "Zama" include:

Best Director(s): Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra (for "Good Manners")
Best Documentary: "Baronesa"  
Best First Fiction Film: "The Wolf House" 
Best U.S. Latino Film: "The Sentence" 
Special Mention, Best U.S. Latino Film: "306 Hollywood"
