Celebrate Mardi Gras with these four films




Since today is Mardi Gras, today is a good day to look at films that take place in New Orleans. Some that come to mind include the 1951 version of "A Streetcar Named Desire" or the 1994 film adaptation of Anne Rice's "Interview with the Vampire." Those are just two that come to mind, below are four others:

1. "Lady from Louisiana" (1941)
This one is for all the John Wayne fans! In "Lady from Louisiana" John Wayne plays a New England lawyer that travels to New Orleans to clean up the local crime syndicate but ends up falling for a racketeer's daughter. Ona Munson, Dorothy Dandridge, and Henry Stephenson also star in the film. The director is Bernard Vorhaus.

2. "The Big Easy" (1986) 
Ellen Barkin and Dennis Quaid star in this New Orleans crime drama about a lieutenant in the homicide division trying to solve the murder of a local mobster and a righteous DA who is sent to investigate police corruption. "The Big Easy" was directed by Jim McBride. Dennis Quaid won the Independent Spirit Award for Best Actor too.

3. "Hatchet" (2006) 
For those who love horror movies are probably well aware of the "Hatchet" movies. The first "Hatchet" (written and directed by Adam Green) is about a group of tourists on a New Orleans haunted swamp tour become stranded in the wilderness are hunted by a vengeful, supernatural deformed man who kills anyone that enters the swamp.

4. "The Princess and the Frog" (2009) 
"The Princess and the Frog" is one for the whole family to enjoy. The Disney movie is about Tiana who dreams of opening a restaurant. In a twist of fate, she kisses a frog and goes on an adventure through the New Orleans bayou. It was written and directed by Ron Clements and John Musker.
