Here are the 10 Animated Shorts that have advanced in the 2017 Oscar® Race

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences
announced on Dec. 4 that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 90th Academy Awards. Originally 63 films were qualified in the category. Members of the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch viewed all the eligible entries for the preliminary round of voting.

So here are the 10 films:

  1. “Cradle,” Devon Manney, director (University of Southern California)
  2. “Dear Basketball,” Glen Keane, director, and Kobe Bryant, writer (Glen Keane Productions)
  3. “Fox and the Whale,” Robin Joseph, director (Robin Joseph)
  4. “Garden Party,” Victor Caire and Gabriel Grapperon, directors (MOPA)
  5. “In a Heartbeat,” Esteban Bravo and Beth David, directors (Ringling College of Art and Design)
  6. “Life Smartphone,” Chenglin Xie, director (China Central Academy of Fine Arts)
  7. “Lost Property Office,” Daniel Agdag, director, and Liz Kearney, producer (8th in Line)
  8. “Lou,” Dave Mullins, director, and Dana Murray, producer (Pixar Animation Studios)
  9. “Negative Space,” Max Porter and Ru Kuwahata, directors (Ikki Films)
  10. “Revolting Rhymes,” Jakob Schuh and Jan Lachauer, directors (Magic Light Pictures)

Now the Short Films and Feature Animation Branch members will select five nominees from the 10 listed above. The branch screenings will be held in Los Angeles, London, New York, and San Francisco in January.

All of the 90th Academy Awards nominations will be announced on Jan 23, 2018. The 90th Oscars® will be held on March 4, 2018, at the Dolby Theatre® at Hollywood & Highland Center® in Hollywood. ABC will be televising the event.
