Kino Lorber has just announced the U.S. theatrical release of "Hermia & Helena" starting on May 26 at the Film Society of Lincoln Center and Metrograph in New York City. This is the English-language debut by acclaimed filmmaker Matias Pineiro.
It was a favorite at the Locarno, New York, Toronto, and BFI London Film Festivals. This is Pineiro's fourth installment in his celebrated series on William Shakespeare's comedies. It's also his first film shot in the United States.
"Hermia & Helena" (named after two characters in "A Midsummer Night's Dream") continues with Pineiro's exploration of female roles in Shakespeare's comedies after "Rosalinda" "Viola," and "The Princess of France."
The cast of "Hermia & Helena" includes Agustina Munoz, Maria Villar, Keith Poulson, Mati Diop, Dan Sallitt, and Dustin Guy Defa.
It's a film of delightful amorous detours, dead ends, and new beginnings, navigating different hemisphere and languages, where the written words of Shakespeare clash with the entanglements of modern, digital life.
