Gravitas Ventures announced on May 3 the U.S. theatrical run of "Elian." It tells the story about Elian Gonzalez, a five-year-old Cuban boy plucked from the Florida Straits on Thanksgiving Day in 1999. It sparked post-Cold War US and Cuban tensions.
The film will be opening on May 12 at Cinema Village in New York City, then a week later on May 19 in Los Angeles. After that, it will be playing in other U.S. cities including Miami.
"Elian" is narrated by Raul Esparza and features candid interviews and archival news footage. Tim Ross and Ross McDonnell are the directors. CNN Films is the co-production partner and is the exclusive presenter for U.S. TV. They also hold the rights to broadcast the film in Canada.
Amazon Prime Video will be the exclusive streaming home for "Elian" for the U.S.
