Book Review: 'The Good, the Tough, and the Deadly: Action Movies & Stars'

For those who are dedicated action fans or newbies, will find David J. Moore's book, "The Good, the Tough, and the Deadly: Action Movies & Stars," a resource that they can't live without. It's over 500 pages of action movies from the '60s to now as well as pictures and interviews. Some of those interviews are with greats like Carl Weathers, Michael Jai White, and Mark Dacascos.
One highlight is that the author doesn't forget about the women action stars either. It's a genre that not too many are recognized for. There are even interviews with stars like Karen Shepherd and Cynthia Rothrock. So that was really nice to see.
Another highlight is just the wealth of knowledge that is in this mammoth book. The author didn't just write down all the popular movies, there are the limited theater releases and movies that were direct to dvd (or VHS in some cases). Would also like to note that I've learned of stars that I haven't heard of or that I have forgotten about. That was a highlight for me on a personal level.
The reviews seem unbiased and you can see that the author takes the genre very seriously. It's also safe to say that the action genre does kind of get thrown under the rug, so it's nice to see someone taking the time to jot down the popular as well as the lesser known ones.
As someone who grew up watching action movies (was a big Van Damme and Jet Li fan), and haven't seen too many since, now wants to relive the genre. So really it's hard to say anything negative about this book, because it's exactly what it said it would be. So if you really love the genre or want to learn more about the stars and the films, this definitely is something to buy (would make a good Christmas or birthday present for you or someone else).
