TV REVIEW: 'Agatha Raisin' pilot movie

The "Agatha Raisin" pilot movie, "Quiche Of Death" will be coming to Acorn TV on August 1. The mystery show is based on the books by M.C. Beaton. So for those who want to watch the series, (after the pilot movie Acorn TV will be adding Series 1 on August 8), check out Acorn TV's site here.
"Quiche of Death" is great for fans of the book series and for those who have never read series. You get enough back story that works for new fans. Agatha Raisin (Ashley Jensen) was a London PR Agent that decides that she wants to quit the business and move to the quaint Cotswolds. In reality the little quaint village she moves to has a lot more going on than she knew about.
She finds that it's pretty hard to fit in. Agatha decides to enter into a quiche competition, which turns out terrible for her. The judge of the contest dies. It's called an accident after Agatha goes on trial, though the townspeople still feel she's "deadly." So Agatha wants to clear her name and find out who wanted the judge dead. The guy was a real ladies man, so it could have been anyone.
Her friend/cleaner Gemma (played by Kathy Wix) helps her along with her old assistant Roy (Matthew Horne). The local Constable, Bill Wong (Matt McCooey) also helps her, though he never fully believes it was murder. He also has a slight crush on her.
The pilot movie is funny, intriguing, and very fun! Ashley Jensen's performance is top-notch as Agatha Raisin. She's funny, blunt, and well just a tad quirky. She finds her way as being an amateur detective because she wants to clear her name and wants to win the love from the village. She wants to finally fit in somewhere, which is something that everyone feels. We all want to belong somewhere. Though one can't blame the townspeople on feeling a little adhesive of their new visitor.
While Jensen is the main actress of the TV show, her co-stars Kathy Wix, Matthew Horne, and Matt McCooey all stood out in their performances. Especially loved the character Gemma. She was the first one to really accept Agatha, even though Bill Wong is vying for Agatha's attention and Gemma loves him.
"The Quiche of Death" takes place in a cozy setting with a lot of secrets! Though for those looking for more of a light-hearted mystery will love it! The pacing is great and the main characters are quite likeable. Agatha could be the sister of Pasty from "Absolutely Fabulous."
Will be looking forward to seeing more of the series. It'll also be interesting to see if Shelia will ever like her neighbor Agatha. So viewers on Acorn TV should undoubtedly feel the same way about the series! If you haven't already fallen in love with Agatha, you'll will with this series!
