The end of the VCR
How many of you still use a VCR? How many of you still own (or even still buy video cassettes)? As someone who still kept her collection and even buys some that still haven't even seen neither a DVD or Blu-Ray release, this news feels like an end of the era. Though it was coming sooner or later, the VCR is a fossil compared to the technology that kids see these days. Which to be clear there is nothing wrong with advancing technology. I own movies/TV shows on VHS, Blu-Ray, DVD, and Digital Movies from Amazon.
Anyway, if you haven't heard the news, the last remaining VCR will cease production later this month. It was on Thursday, when the Funani Corporation of Japan said that they would stop making them. The reasoning was it was the difficulty of finding parts and their sales were 750,000 in 2015. It's a big number for something that is not quite popular anymore, but in the heyday, the company saw a much larger sale number.
It'll be interesting to see when the DVD player will be seeing their demise, because of the Blu-Ray and the digital option. So this leads me to ask the question, how do you watch your favorite movies? Or how do you buy your favorite movies?
